Summer Dirty Soda by Anna Tusa
Cool, fizzy, low-calorie ideas to beat the heat
When the temperature climbs, a dirty soda can feel like instant relief: icy, bubbly, and just sweet enough to make a scorching day better.
What is a dirty soda? It’s a soda mixed with cream or a creamy add-in plus flavored syrup or citrus for a playful, dessert-like drink that still feels refreshingly light when you keep the ingredients simple.
Low-Cal Flavor Combos
Lime + coconut — diet lemon-lime soda, a splash of coconut syrup, and ice.
Strawberry + vanilla — diet cola or sparkling water, strawberry syrup, and a touch of vanilla.
Peach + raspberry — plain sparkling water, peach flavor, and a raspberry finish.
Cherry + lime — diet cola, cherry syrup, and a squeeze of fresh lime.
Blackberry + mint — club soda, blackberry syrup, and a few mint leaves.
Dirty Dr. Pepper – Dr. Pepper, coconut syrup (or creamer), fresh lime juice, and dairy. Make it a Diet with Diet Dr. Pepper.
Easy Build Formula
- Fill a tall glass with ice.
- Add your soda base, such as diet soda or sparkling water.
- Mix in one flavored syrup or a small amount of fruit puree.
- Finish with a light creamy add-in, if desired.
- Stir gently and garnish with citrus, berries, or mint.
Tip — keep the pour light and let the ice do the work so the drink stays crisp instead of heavy.
Smart Low-Cal Swaps
Choose diet or zero-sugar soda instead of regular soda.
Use sugar-free syrups or just a small splash of flavored syrup. Monin or Torani syrup are the best. World Market has a great selection and pumps that make life so much easier.
Skip heavy cream and use a lighter splash of half-and-half or a splash of coconut milk if you want creaminess.
Lean on fresh citrus for brightness without extra sugar.
Keep portions small by serving in an 8- to 12-ounce glass.
Summer, solved: one frosty, fizzy dirty soda at a time.
